Dave's right. GL1100 rim sizes were 17 inch(80-81) and 16 inch(82-83) on the rear. Beetle tires were 15 inch.Even the with was too wide at 5.60 where as the widest that would fit would be a 5.0.

I think (means I am not sure) that Cooper Tire in their Vintage Tire reproduction line sells a Wide White wall 4.95 x 152 ply Nylon Bias Ply Unbelted tire for several of the European cars from the mid 50's. But even if it would fit, that is not a tire I would put on a motorcycle.
