What are all of the tools needed to replace a stator on a 1986 1200 Aspencade? What is the best aftermarket stator to get and where? Do I need to replace the regulator thing as well?
Any advise would be great advise

For what it's worth, I'm taking the advice of the forum and this weekend doing an alternator conversion. I've been running on battery alone all week. i've found i can go @ 50 miles with headlight until it starts getting weak!
anyway, i'm doing a personally built modification of the poorboy mod. I recommend it. otherwise, you need to pull the engine, and pull the rear cover. you will need 19 mm, 17mm, 12 mm, and 10 mm sockets, ideally a motorcycle stand, i have a yellow HF that works great. you will also need snap ring pliers for the clip on the drive shaft. also order a new rear gasket.
you will need to remove all of the plastic, seat, false tank.
Drain the oil and water first.

done this more times than i want to think about on my 1100... i can now do a drop in less than 2 hours
