Tools Needed to Replace GL1200 Stator

What are all of the tools needed to replace a stator on a 1986 1200 Aspencade? What is the best aftermarket stator to get and where? Do I need to replace the regulator thing as well?
Any advise would be great advise

Ok cool. What and how do you go about doing the external alternator? I would think about it as long is was sleek enough to not look clunky.
