To my Canadian friends.
I'm planning a return trip to NS on my 04 Wing with an HD brother along. Most of the trip will be on NS but I would like to include a day on PEI. If I use the ferry to Wood Islands, can I ride the coastline in a day. Or atleast counter clockwise to Charlottetown then cross the Confederation brige as a route home. Is this reasonable or a pipedream?

Oh Canada! Since there's no pro hockey for us to watch this season, please take time to help me out with this PEI/ NS trip.

Thanks, Rich

I don't know about PEI but I'll tell you of 2 other spots you should visit. 1) Cape George, NS- directly north of Antigonish... spectacular scenery. 2) Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island. I was told to do this route counter clockwise as this way you'll be in the lane closest to the ocean.

I think the most memorable thing was how friendly the local people were. When you stop you can almost expect to spend 15 minutes chatting with someone.

Enjoy your trip it's beautiful out there.

Steve, Thanks for the suggestions. I have visited NS before and your information is quite accurate. Cape George was beautiful even in a typhoon. Antigonish was great for the Highland Games. You may be correct about Cape Breton, I travelled clockwise to avoid some of the cage traffic and it was still wonderful.

Folks! I'm still interested in help about PEI. AH!

You may want to check the distances out on a map. Even though
Prince Edward Island is about the size of Rhode Island, it still takes a while to drive around. Plan accordingly.

Thanks Dean. I'm a planner extreme! The mileage seems doable but it's hard to really know without having done it.

In theory!!! From Wood Island heading counterclockwise, you can circumvent the entire Island in just over 10 hours, which would include passing Confederation bridge and going to Charlottetown and backtracking on a different route back to the bridge. If you are into a serious gas'n'go. About all you would miss on this route is an hour long stretch between Wood Island and Charlottetown. My past experience on the Island, you will have a red mud dusty bike and order potatoes with every meal. If you find an Acadian restaurant, there is a breakfast dish called poutane (I believe) It is baked shredded potatoes with pork in a caserole dish and you pour sweet table molasses over it. The only place I've ever seen this dish and really enjoyed it. Say hi to Anne for me when you get there.

Kyle, Thanks for the info. I'm not the Iron Butt kind of rider if I can help it...I just don't have much time. Looks like we'll cross to PEI on the ferry...circle eastward and back to Charlottetown...just to say we rode PEI. Their tourist Bureau sent me some excellant literature and Charlottetown looks like the place to go...stay the night and head over the bridge in the morning...then follow the coast back to the US.

Thanks again! Rich
If you are ever touring the NYC/NJ area let me know.

For a short jaunt, From Wood Island north through Charolettetown to North Cape and have a look at the infamous Elephant Rock. Nice cliff view. You may even see them harvesting Irish Moss, and see a lighthouse or two. Back on down to Borden-Carleton to Confederation Bridge. About 4-6 hours of riding, pending on how many roses you want to smell.

Kyle, thanks.
This sounds right on target. We plan to cross on the ferry and circle to Charlottetown for dinner and overnight. In the morning follow yoour suggestion to North Cape >>>Bridge>>>head home. As for the poutane...I'm kind of a bacon and eggs type.
Thanks for taking time to help.
