I just got horrible news that Julia Sit, a very respected and loved leader in the (sport)bike community in Vancouver, BC, was killed on a ride on Sunday. I'm in shock.
Julia ran her family cafe, the Flying Swan, which was the hub of her tireless activities and welcoming spirit to all the motorcyclists that came her way. She will be sorely missed, and was a very special spirit.
Stay safe out there, never take anything for granted --- on or off your bike. Julia was a race-certified rider, whom apparently lost control after a curve and failed to straighten up, hitting the curb and going into a culvert. She was with friends and riding at a very reasonable speed in dry conditions. So sad.
It was on Highway #1, north of Hope. She was riding with her fiancee, due to be married in 3 weeks. It was a year to the day her previous partner was killed riding. She came out of a right turn and didn't straighten out enough, caught the curb and went into a 2 meter ditch. i guess she broke her neck. Her fiancee found her. Tragic, just awful.
Being originally from Chilliwack, I know the stretch of the Fraser Canyon you speak of...it's a scenic route, but can be treacherous in spots. For you guys from Washington and Oregon, drive up the Fraser Canyon some day, but be mindful of the twists and turns of the highway.
