I am new to the trailer game and found a used trailer. My wing is set up with a hitch but I was wondering how much weight can I have on the tongue and the limit on total weight to be safe.

It is recommended to have approximately 15 percent of the trailer weight. I have a small trailer, trailer and cargo usually weighs around 200 pounds. I usually keep the tongue weight to around 20 - 25 pounds. I use a fish scale to measure my tongue weight. However some folks run a lot more tongue weight and say they have no problems.

Here is something to think about. The more weight you put on the hitch, the more pressure you put on the rear tire.
Honda says 20 pounds in each saddlebag and trunk, that equals 60 pounds. If you have them approximately half full, then you would have about 30 pounds left before exceeding the Honda recommended weight for the read suspension. Too much pressure on the rear tire and it can tend to lighten the pressure on the front tire. Not good...!

I pull a Kwik Kamp tent trailer which probably weighs a bit more & I have always used the 10% factor for tongue weight. I think we all have our own method I use a bathroom scale:action:
