I have a 97 GW se and last week while I was riding on the highway at 110 to 120 km hr. it slipped out of OD and into 4TH on its own and as I was exiting the highway onto the off ramp it slipped back into OD. This has never happened before and on my return home after the incidentdid not happen again. Does anyone have any idea of what might cause this.

Too gentle a shift when you shifted up into OD. If it never happens again, then put it down to a bad (gentle) upshift and don't worry about it.

I've done it a few times where I didn't QUITE shift it firmly enough, but it went in...until I come off the throttle, at which point it jumps in between gears, and I find myself effectively in neutral. A good firm shift fixes it.

If it starts happening all the time, it could be worn dogs in the transmission.

YUP, soft shifting... I do it to too often so I learned to "Re-Habit" the practice of double-clutching.
Problem solved.
