Thats interesting .I have not seen that before . Are you going to quad ? I am curious about your trike rear axle conversion .

The VW front end assembly comes off or attaches with four bolts IIRC. I also recall the unit being heavy. Not sure if that helps.

The sawed off front tubes look interesting. How is the front end of that thing connected?.,,

Was looking at that. Looks to me that the VW front beam was narrowed to fit the GL frame rails. Looks like it connects about where the lower fairing frame would go, and also down at the removeable frame section to allow engine removal. Somewhere in those areas?

weight seems a little high, in the saddle the lower the mass to the axle center line the better it will handle, same with the mass being closer to the spine of the trike and not to far left or right or it will produce YAW and be off balance.

But,

Build a small frame 2" x 2" .120 wall square tube.

Pull the engine/trans, and Radiator mount it up right behind the front VW front end beams with enough room to work on and remove things when needed.

lengthen the drive shaft so that YOU can Mount a seat Down LOW and sit down lower between the engine/trans and the swing arm/rear wheel, and i think you would be on to something.

I would measure seat heights in some low Stock cars like a Miata, or a Corvette, and get a ground up to seat height measurement.

with that said you may want to put a small tank on this and maybe a second tank for extended like the Roadstercycle

All while trying to keep the overall length as short as you can.

This would make a great Single seat trike, like the Roadstercycle

That vw front end is about 100-lbs. or so.

And you can always upgrade to disc brakes

That front end could work just fine.

Those older Bugs have a nice ride, you can put on sway away adjusters that allow you to adjust the front suspension, like lower or raise it a couple inches, tighten the suspension to make it firmer or softer, and you can also put a sway bar on it and some good gas shocks to make it handle good.

It would have a nice ride.

Key here is get the weight down as Low as you can, and keep the mass of the weight as close to the center spine as possible

I have a spare 1100 and 1500 laying around and this looed like a need way to Spyder one out. the web site i was and still looking for showed some more pictures, like how the stearing is done, upside down steering stem to the VW linkage.. uhhhh nope, i think if i do it it will be to a rack and pinion set up. as for the merwing it is with it's org wing owner up in Yucca Valley tooling around town.
I don't think the C/G is any higher than my wifes Can-am RT. their was a post awhile back called Stealth trike that used a Quads front end and an St1100 that really looked good too but he changed from an A frame to a beam front and it didn't look as neat just rode better.

Ive been studying reverse trikes for a while now. After this downsizing we are struggling through is over I think I'm going to build one. I also have some seruis VW racing experience and a fair amount of experience with the Can-Am Roadster.

The geometry of a reverse trike is unique and a hacked together solution will kill you. The VW front end was built to carry more weight than the total weight of a Goldwing. You could remove some of the torsion leafs and come up with a new sway bar but you would still be stuck with the Goldwing frame that wasn't designed to handle the loads this layout would generate.

I had a Spyder RT top of the Line, all options, they sway more than i like, you have to ride it like a quad and lean you body waaay over for a fast turn.

They are Expensive

I think using a VW front end, jeep radiator, the jeep radiator is about the same size as the VW front end center section, put the jeep Radiator in front of the VW front end.

Stock VW steering box, they work Great, I would then NOT use the Goldwing Frame.

You would be better off sitting between the trans and swing arm/rear wheel and about 6"-8" above the frame, enough room for the gas tank, that would make seat height about 6"-8" lower than the stock Goldwing seat height.

Or you could put a 914 gas tank (16 Gallons) right behind the VW front beam and the engine Right behind that

I personally think that any car/motorcycle gaff is not only ugly but the lazy and less than optimal way to do it.

I remember back in the mid 80's there was a guy that had an 1100 GoldWing motor in a 3 wheel ATV.. Man, talk about quick..

Hmm... I've gotta couple extra motors layin around.. and a Suzuki Quad Runner 4x4 ATV... Engine in that thing sounds like the mice have hammers and they're pissed off!! Might be time for a transplant..

I have a nice low miles GL1200 engine 35K that i may have to build one of these.

I also have a 88' GL1500 that might go under the knife, at least that one has reverse.
