There's always the fun way, haul the '83 and store the '00. Fly backfor it and ride home in style. When I moved from WA to OR I rented a U-haul 26' truck and a 5x9' utility trailer that has a ramp. There was no way I could haul two 'Wingson the trailer so I ended up hauling my 1500 on the trailer and the two 1100s in the truck with the household goods.
Looks to me that the 6x12 utility trailer would take both bikes okay. You could mark out 6'x12' or a bit less on (the measurements on trailers are outside ones I think) the ground to see how they'd fit. It might be worth taking the bags off the '83 for more room, you'll have about 3' overlap on the two bikes. I believe the center of gravity on the pair of bikes facing in opposite directions with the 1500 facing forward would be okay for the trailer's tongue weight.
The advantage of the utility is more tie downs and you can easily check how they're doing. if things loosen up in a closed trailer it's going to be a lot harder to get them retied when both are in the box. I used ratchet straps to tie the bike down which worked very well. I like them because when you stop you can check each tie down for looseness (and there will be some) and snug them up again easily and quickly. A little rain and dirt won't hurt them, you aren't going to have them on the road any longer than they'd be if you rode them anyway. If it 'twere me I'd go with the U-haul trailer, bite the bullet on the cost.
