Hi, I have just returned from a great tour of Ireland on my '94 GL1500 trike.

My problem is my gearbox started to make horrific noises.

Symtoms: Rattling from gearbox in neutral and in 1st 2nd 3rd gears. 4th gear feels like it is trying to kick itself out. Seems ok in 5th.
My bike mechanic says that after contacting a few people in the states he found out that the '94 and '95 bikes have a known problem with gearboxes and they say that the 3rd /4th gear clusters are probably worn out and the gear selectors are more than likely worn/bent and that it is trying to select all the gears at once hence the rattle.
Apparently later models were modified.

My garage cannot do the job as they do not have the space or expertise for it.
I was wondering if anyone knows of a bike shop that could do the job for me.
in the uk.
I stay in the Scottish Borders but any pointers would be gratefully recieved.

Appleyards will have done that repair a thousand times by now, they are very experienced in Goldwing mechanicals. They are not cheap, make sure to get a firm estimate before leaving your Wing in.

Just buy a good used engine and save a lot of money and teardown time. I've seen a few low mileage engines for under 400 quid. Muggingyards are going to have about £1200 out of you for a repair.
