Have a 1980 Goldwing 53,000 miles, was idling while preparing to store away for the winter. As I was adding stabilizer to gas tank heard a weird noise and then a pop!. Valve adjustment cap blew off of the rear case. Engine stopped andnow will not start.The engine did not seize. Any ideas what happened.

Kind of sounds like the alternator rotor bolt was loose and backed out. It pushed the cap off. Do you see a bolt head sticking out with a 12mm head??
