I have a 1985 1200 Interstate. Looking to trade for a 93 aspencade. My bike and 4000$ will put me in the aspencade. Is that a good deal? My 1200 has 63000 miles and the 93 has 87000. Both in good to great shape for there age. Are there any things I ned to look out for on the 93? Any ideas/help appreciated. Thanks

That deal would mean a total to you of between $7000-$7500 depending on the condition of your bike. I think you could get a better deal. Seems like most people I have read on here that traded from the 1200 to the 1500 actually wished they had kept the 1200.

I have to agree, that's a little bit high, Assuming both bikes are in great condition, I would say your 1200 and $500.00 maybe even $1000.00, but not $4000.00.

I would also venture to guess that a little high. Around here, I see those years 1500s go for 4-5K and 1200s go for 2-3K. I would think more like 1500-2000 trade would be more like it. I love my 1500. I traded up from a 1200, and there is no comparison for riding 2-up, which is what more than 3/4 of the miles that are put on our bike. The 1500 really shines in that category. The 1200 seemed a tad more nimble in slow speeds and around town, but for the bulk of the miles my wife and I put on, we try to avoid stoplights, city driving, etc.

From what I see in my area(central Florida)you should be able to buy a 1500 ('95 an back) outright for 3-4k. Any chance you can sell the 1200 and have cash to deal with ? I think I just read about one in the for sale forum in that price range .

OK, I see where the aspencade is not worth the price. What abput an SE of 93? Is 4000 and my bike (trade in 2500) good deal on SE?

A few years ago, 4 I think....

I had a very nice '84 gl1200se that I had put a lot of money in. To me, it was a great bike and I love it. but the carbs were money pits and I had to make a decision.

I finally found a guy who had a very nice looking '94 gl1500se with everything on it I wanted, included the maroon two tone paint with gold trim lines. We finally agreed on my bike plus $4,000

I felt I paid a bit much, but I got what I wanted, he got what he wanted, AND I now had a 'new to me' daily rider that did not have to go in the shop every six weeks for carb work.

I put a lot of pleasurable miles and Smiles on that 1500 and never did a thing to it after getting rid of the little wrinkles I inherited from him. (there's always that factor)

I'm not counting the time I filled the carbs full of sandy silt out at Lake Havasu :cooldevil:
