Was out gathering up parts at Napa and Honda dealership for up coming 60K service on my GL1100I. While at the dealership, I was looking at a used 1994 GL1500SE. Nice bike, 89000 miles, minor scatches and a missing cover on right saddlebag under speaker. But overall a real nice bike with all the goodies. I asked the sales girl what they wanted for it and with a pretty smile she said $13400. I asked her why in the world would anyone give that much for a well used bike when for about $4k more I could buy a new one in Dallas? (Here in Killeen/Ft Hood area make that 6K.) I thanked her and told her that I think I'll keep my 81. I got home, and started looking at e-bay and I could have got a lot nicer bike for a lot less. It is bad enough that I had to give $46 for a couple of gaskets and o-rings (about $2 in materials ) but I don't see how they can ask about $4K more for a bike than it is worth in my opinion. I don't think the bike cost that much new in 94.:(

Gotta' agree with you, that's a bit on the high side, but what the heck, just makes mine more valuable.

Lately, in this country, anything that is for sale is priced on what the market will bear.. If some dumba__ will pay 6k more for a bike than what it's worth,,, then good luck to the seller. My riding buddy just sold his raggeddy old 84 wing with rusted pipes, corroded engine exterior, re-paint, gummed up carbs, frosted windshield, 49k miles on the odometer, flattened out seat (because he's so heavy),and a destroyed starter for $3000. I offered him $200 because of all the work it needed, and now I see why he turned me down... My own riding buddy... I felt betrayed... :stumped:

HOWEVER! I did get a free lunch out of him...

Can't blame them, it's like used cars, ask for the moon you neve know when someone will come along and hand it over. It's like the second window sticker on new cars too. I asked a dealer what the $3000 ADM item was on an additional window stickerand in a moment of unusual candor he told me it stood for "additional dealer markup". I askedwho the hell would pay that and was told that I'd be surprised how many did, they didn't actually expect to get it but occasionally they did so it was worth printing up the extra sticker in hopes.

I doubt they actually expect to get that much for the bike but if they ask a reasonable price it doesn't leave any dealing room. I never did like doing business like a Persian Bazaar (it's okay, Persia doesn't exist today, if you think that's too non PC). That's the beauty of eBay and the Internet, you can see what the going prices really are. Has anyone taken a selling price from eBay to a dealer to see what they'd say?

same here I was looking at 2 1200 's (84 and 85)at the same dealer last fall. They were asking 2K more than I paid for my 86 Aspy

They are still sitting there

Talked to my friend who works in the service department, said that the bike was a trade in on a 05 GW, dealer only gave $3500 trade in for it, considering that the average sales price there is $2k over MSRP, that means basically they got the bike for free. Heck of a profit if they sell it for that. Guess they need the money for the new building they moved into last month.:)

BTW, Redwing, the girl was pretty, but not that pretty.:D

Much as I love my 93 Red Aspy with most SE options and only 98,000 miles, Iam willing to sell it to the first member who offers $18,000US cash.
