Using 49 State Filter on Calif. GL1500?

619 Views 8 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Silicon Sam
From a PRACTICAL standpoint, after comparing the 49 state airfilter the local dealer has to my California filter that the dealer does not have...I don't see why they won't interchange. I can't see where the micro amount of oil/gas that would normally contact the charcoal unit is going to hurt the paper element.

Your thoughts please? Thanks!

It's a perfect interchange… I've been running the 49 state filter on my 88 1500 for years with no problem. Go for it.
Thanks Ray...now there are 2 of us!

A 49 state filter? A California filter? What are those... never heard of them before...

Is it something that California requires something special and the rest of the country uses a normal filter? What is the difference?
As you can see in the photo, the California filter has a place where a Charcoal canister nestles down into it. The 49 state filter is all pleated filter paper. No reason for dealers outside Calif to stock the odd version, so I'd have to special order it, or buy online, neither of which I had the patience for.

BTW
They don't stock them here in CA either, most now say no to any inventory and make you special order everything even gas filters at $25, WRONG!

Can't blame them, I wouldn't stock something I didn't sell at least a couple of a month. Most dealers don't have the money or the room to stock everything. Even when you order from a dealer online they a lot of times have to get it from the warehouse.
Moonbeam's CA Goldwing Air Cleaner Police are going to get you.......................
My CA model wing had a 49 state filter in it when I got it, and I replaced it with one. Bike did spend some of it's life in AZ...
