can only respond to Q#1.... often you do not need to replace this gasket, however, like any gasket they can start to leak. The tend to leak more with aftermarket chrome covers than the oem covers. lots of ways to get those gaskets... honda... www.bikebandit.com www.powersportspro.com and sabre-cycle. I ofetn order the parts I need on-line because two trips to the nearest dealer cost about the same as the S$H costs.

if by the thermostat housing you mean the lower hose connection... this is not the thermostat (it is behind the radiator on the top of the engine. this is where the water pump is. It is an O-ring... cheap enough to replace and I would not use silicon.

Is this a new to you bike? then there a lots of possible mainenance things you might also consider... like the belts for the cams, etc,
