I have some valve clatter, and in my papers from the PO there was an invoice for cleaning out oil journals. How does one do that at home?

Also, whats the process for replacing stem seals? Thanks!

Replacing valve stem seals.

I've seen adapters built from an old spark plug and a quick disconnect for an air hose. Piston moved to TDC and combustion chamber filled with air from compressor. The pressurized combustion chamber holds the valve in place while the rocker arm, keeper, spring, and seal are removed. The new seal is installed before reassembly. I suspect this same procedure will work on a wing. If I am wrong someone please correct me! Terry

Or you can use some soft rope. Feed it in through the sparkplug hole and then bring the piston up to compress the rope and hold the valves.

What does the "clatter" sound like? Is it a ticking sound? If so, it could be the collet on the rocker arm shaft is out of adjustment. My 1200 was ticking on the right side. Pulled the valve cover and found that collet was out of adjustment. Adjusted it and no more ticking.

Good luck!
