Hi guys, new to this site so please bear with me...I'm just adjusting the valve clearances upon a GL1100 1980, they haven't been done for at least three years. The bike ran reasonably well and doesn't smoke etc, when I have timed it to TDC and began to check the clearances ( with inlet / exhaust fully closed ) not one valve had any clearance at all, is this right!!! I believe that there should be 4 thou of inch clearance on the inlet between rocker arm and valve stem and 5 thou on the exhaust. please correct me if I am wrong ( and I'm sure you will ( LOL ) ) they should be done cold and the gap left is take take up tolerances when the engine is warm therefore still allowing the valve to close fully!!
Have I got this right,
cheers
