I have a 1988 GL1500 and want to chrome the valve covers. Do I need to drain the oil first or if I don't will it flood out when I remove the covers? Thanks.

You will lose about a cup full from each side if you do it on the main stand. If you do it on the sidestand you will lose a cupful from the left side and none from the right.

Be careful with the valve cover bolts. They are very thin at the threaded end and can break.
I stripped the threads in one of my heads once. Had to get a helicoil insert to sort the problem. Previous owner must have overtightened the bolts.

I once "JB Welded" a "Sleeve" or "Insert" into a stripped plug hole on a car (Aluminum)and it's still holding years later! :clapper:That's after many mechanics told me it wouldn't work?!:baffled:
