Inside the fuel tank there is a metal tube connected to the tank itself with a hose connected to the fuel pump. What is that for and, can or should it be blocked when replacing the fuel pump with an aftermarket pump which does not have that particular extra hose connection, only a single fuel discharge line?

I pulled the hose off and threw it away. Most folks do the same.

I suppose there is no concerns about tank fuel flowing up into that vent, escaping out onto the engine or the ground anywhere?
