This was posted on another GW forum, but nobody had any ideas to help. Maybe I'll have better fortune here.

I purchased a complete set of Vetter bags/trunk for my GL1000. They are complete sans one thing, the locking releases for the saddlebags. For anyone not familiar, there is supposed to be an "L" bracket of sorts housing a keyed lock that spreads a piece of thin spring steel that releases the bags from the mounts after they are on the bike. The bags are supposed to be removable as luggage and also makes maintenance on the rear of the bike much easier with them off. With the locks missing, the bags can still be securely mounted, but they cannot be removed without it being a major evolution. It took finessing the spring with two screwdrivers at the same time to get them off doing it on my workbench to be able to refinish the mounts and put them on the GL. That won't be easy to do once they're mounted.

I sent Carol Vetter a letter, but never received any response. I did notice that a number of them available for various bikes on eBay are missing them also.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

No, they aren't like that. The pix I have are small and when I try to enlarge them so you can actually see them, they get too pixelated. I'll post one, but it may be an effort to see.

The locks have a metal piece that turns and spreads the spring when you turn the key to allow the retainer pin to the bags to be released. The locks are held in a metal bracket.

Those pictures really helped, Brian. Thanks.

I looked at the bags after I saw the pictures. Replacing the locks is a no brainer. The problem is the cog. Now, after seeing how they really are configured, maybe if I get the proper length locks at Home Depot, I might be able to fabricate some sort of cog that might work. What they come with is a piece to lock a desk or file cabinet and that won't work. The brackets that holds the locks are intact after all on the bags I got, so that's all I have to figure out now.
