Vetter saddlebag question

Hmmmm i had a set of them but for the life of me i cant remember how the seal looks.

I would go to napa and see if they have something that would work. If not i would then go to the hardware store and get some of that stick on foam weather strip and cut it into little strips and as a final idea check jc whitney thay have a good selection of weather strip also.

I have a 78 with the bags. If you notice, there are drain holes in the bottom, so they were never meant to be water-tight. However, i simply bent back the lock-tab that secures the door, just enough to snug the door tighter when the key is turned to lock it.

A trip to a car breakers might help. Door frame rubbers come in various types and you can usually get one that will work on the saddlebags for loose change.

The bags have no drain holes. I heard from Craig vetter on this and he had the same suggestions. I'll have to give a look around and see what I can find.

Hi Rick, try JC Whitney, they have quite a selection of weather stripping available. It has been so long now since I had my 1000 I can't remember what the seals looked like on the Vetter bags, but this may help.

Hi Rick,

:dance:The seals are part of the chrome finish around the door / lids. You might take a close look the doors and make sure the chrome is seated correctly all the way around. When I painted my lids, I took the chrome off by carefully prying it using a flat screwdriver and a socket for leverage. Putting itback on, I used a plastic hammer and wood to seat it back on.

I also found the locks to be just about useless since thereis very little to hook on to. Most likely the best way to protect your stuff is getting a few of those plastic travel bags and insert them inside to keep things waterproof. You might still want to drill a could of small holes on the bottom for drainage. :cooler:

I've looked at the chromme, the seal looks like it will slide out if I can find one to replace it with. But in the mean tie I did drill a small drain hole in the left one as that's the only one that seems to be leaking.
