On 1985 LTD, voltage reading fluctuates and usually settles around 11.2 while riding. Is this a problem?

Welcome to the forum FredA! you have to eliminate some of the easy stuff to try and isolate your problem. The stators in the 1100's are pretty good but the wiring sucks.

On the rear of the engine, left side as your sitting on it you will find yellow wires coming out & they connect under your battery cover. The 3 yellow wires go into this connector & usually burn up in there.

Cut the 3 yellow wires & remove this plug completely. Re sodder them back together. The order does not matter, just 3 yellow to 3 yellow.

Now, clean all your main connections & fully charge your battery. Take it for another run & see if it's up around 13.8 to 14 volts at 3000 rpm. if it is, your good to go!!

check and see what the battery is charging at actually. My LTD was charging fine, but the voltmeter was way off. If you find that yours is charging good, you can adjust the voltmeter to match what the battery is seeing. Just open it up, and there is a trimpot inside that you can adjust to calibrate the voltmeter. ONLY DO THIS IF ALL OTHER THINGS CHECK OUT THOUGH
