I blew it! Pulled the carbs off my 1100 and cleaned them with carb cleaner, put them back on and ran a heavy mix of seafoam and gas( bypassing the tank). Took out/ destroyed the air valves. So now its back to the bench and total rebuild. Beware of the chemicals that you play with.

I agree, there are several carb solvents that will attack the rubber parts like the air cut off diaphragms. I rebuilt one set of carbs that had air cut off valve diaphragms that had turned in to black gunk. It would be a lot worse if someone used solvents like that on a 1200's CV slides. Ruining the CV slide diaphragms would be pretty bad news.

Do a test.
Put an ounce of your carb cleaner in a Styrofoam cup and an ounce of Seafoam in another Styrofoam cup.
Suggest you place a saucer under thecup with carb cleaner in it.:cooldevil:

Yep lots of carb cleaners are absorbed by rubber and it expands and deforms but may go back into shape if left out for a while..I actually use it to soften up old rubber and make it usable again.

The NAPA carb cleaner turned my air-cutoffs into black goo. I'm talking about the stuff that is really strong.

Here's the deal; never put anything in the good NAPA cleaner, except the brass jets. It dissolves EVERTHING that is organic!!!!!

$128.00 in parts on order, learn the hard way. At least someone could have put a picture of someone getting kicked in the rear on here to stress the point. Back to the bench.document.write('/forums/images/emoticons/sad.gif');
