I got some chuckles out of this

The Joy of Motorcycle Riding
author unknown

I love motorcycles, and I love riding. Like many of you what first drew me to bikes was not just the experience of riding, but the feeling that I'd become part of a special community - a brotherhood, really. Nothing calms me more than a long ride down the interstate, waving to the members of my beloved clan. Except when I pass Harley guys. I hate Harley guys. Hate, hate, hate. When they pass me on the highway, you know what I do? I don't wave. With their little tassel handlebars and the studded luggage and the half helmets - God, they drive me crazy.

You know who else I hate? BMW guys. Oh, do I hate those guys. I don't wave at them either. They think they're so great, sitting all upright, with their 180 degree German engines. God, I hate them. They're almost as bad as those old bastards on their touring motorcycles. You know what I call those bikes? "Two wheeled couches!" Get it? Because they're so big. They drive around like they have got all day. Appreciate the scenery somewhere else, Grandpa, and while your at it, I'm not waving to you.

Ducati guys - I don't wave at them either. Why they don't spend a little more money on their bikes? "You can have it in any color as long as it is red." Aren't you cool! Like they even know what a Desmo-whatever engine is, anyway. Try finding the battery, you Italian-wannabe racers! I never, ever wave at those guys.

Suzuki guys aren't much better, which is why I never wave at them, either. They always have those stupid helmets sitting on the top of their stupid heads, and God forbid they should ever wear any safety gear. They make me so mad. Sometimes they'll speed by and look over at me and you know what I do? I don't wave I just keep going. Please, don't get me started on Kawasaki guys. Ninjas? What are you, twelve years old? Team Green my ass. I never wave at Kawasaki guys.

I ride a Honda, and I'll only wave at Honda guys, but even then, I'll never wave at a guy in full leathers. Never, never, never. Yeah like you're going to get your knee down on the New York Thruway. Nice crotch, by the way. Guys in full leathers will never get a wave from me, and by the way, neither will the guys in two piece leathers. And I'll tell you who else I'm not waving at - those guys with the helmets with loud paint jobs. Four pounds of paint on a two pound helmet - like I'm going to wave back at that! I'll also never wave at someone with a mirrored visor. Or helmet stickers. Or racing gloves. Or hiking boots.

To me, motorcycling is like a family, a close knit brotherhood of people who ride Hondas, wear jeans and a leather jacket (not Vanson) with regular gloves and a solid color helmet with a clear visor, no stickers, no racing gloves and regular boots (not Timberlands). And isn't that what really makes riding so special. *

Hell, I wave at anyone on two wheels unless I don't see them. It was the same in 1961 when I got my MGA, all sports car drivers waved at each other back then.

to the author..., who peed in your oatmeal? You get up on the wrong side of the bed today? That was funny!

I have noticed that a very high percentage of the harley riders WONT wave. My reaction is "bite me".

In theory, anyways, we should all be a brotherhood. We all should be together, even if we are apart, ya know?

Well... I've also noticed that many Goldwing riders don't wave either.

I wave at everyone on two wheels, even bicycles.

I have found here in Texas that more Harley riders wave back than do Goldwing riders. Makes ya wonder..

I wave at all bikers; even those punks on their crotch rockets. Most wave back. My best guess about Harley riders is that they can't handle all that vibration with just one hand on the bars. The ones I get the biggest kick out of here in AZ is all those dot.com retirees and Internet millionaires in their late 50's and early 60's who buy a Road King or Heritage Classic as their first bike, cause they wanna show that they are now Mr. Bad A**. The used bike market here is lousy withHarleys because they soon find out it's too much bike for a first-time rider. We are indeed a brotherhood, and I'm proud to be one of the few, the chosen, the Goldwing riders!!

I have been waving at other bikers since I got my wing... but here recently I have had to just nod in acknoledgement a lot... otherwise I would be riding around one-handed all the time. When gas prices went up, it went from me seeing about 5-10 bikes on the road on the way to and from work to 50-100. If this keeps up, I'll beging looking like a bobble-head going down the road nodding. :grinner:

Same here. Especially in group rides.

If they ride a motorcycle, and they wave, I wave back. I remember when riding solo, I would come up upon another motorcyclist, or another motorcyclist would come upon me. We would automaticly get in formation, regardless of what we rode. That made me feel the brotherhood of motorcycling.

Hi,

Generally, I wave to everybody. Most Harley pilots wave back. It doesn't hurt my feelings if some one doesn't wave back.:waving:

Jeep wrangler owners also wave. :waving:

Waving:waving:--Geez, I have never seen so many bikers since I started riding my wing. When I first started, bikers would wave, and if I was in a peaceful moment(under control), I would wave back. Now, I am in control almost all the time and I actually initiate the wave. I noticed that most waves are the low wave-sorta out under the handlebar. I tried that at highway speed and found my arm pinned back by the left pannier, so I started going out and up a bit but thought that most may not see my hand behind the mirror. I would wonder if the guy saw me wave or not and even considered turning around and overtaking him only to turn around again and remeet him so he could see me wave.

I think waving and brotherhood is just great, but geez, is this getting out of hand?? OMG, did I actually say that??:waving::waving::waving::waving:

I enjoyed that piece, Axelwik!

I've ranted about this subject before but just have to add a bit: Around here in mid western Illinois, 95% of the Harleys wave or wave back. 25% of the guys riding the newest 'Wings will. I wonder if they're afraid to let go of the handlebar. I was riding down a main street here in town just the other day and saw a guy sitting on his new wing, stopped, leaned back on the back restat a gas station. He looked right at me. I waved. He didn't even smile, just barely a nod. So, I reduced the amount of wind resistance on my waving hand to just one digit and motored on:321:. P***ed me off. Oh well, I know it shouldn't bother me but come on, like is said, we're supposed to be a family of sorts and I don't care what you ride. If you need help, I'll do what I can to make your situation better.

That's all. Hobie done.

That made me laugh, I have a vision of the poor new Wing rider, just got his first bike, doesn't know about the waving thing, he's sitting there, probably watching for ladieees. All of a sudden some greasey biker swans by and waves at him!! Bemused, he probably thought, " I wonder if he's gay and is fancying me?" Next second he is getting the one didgit wave and he is now thinking, "Ok, just 'cause I have a newer wing, that gay rider is jelous, well $%^&* him too!!"

Then again, he probably was very short sighted and didn't see any of your friendly gestures.

If bikers don't wave back, I mutter into my intercom, " and a hello to you too Sir" or words to that effect. It usually gets Helen the Viking laughing.

I tend to wave at all riders.

If they don't wave back, in my mind I give them another wave....:2finger:
