Okay,
as y'all know, I have been going thru a lot of pain and suffering with my new laptop, the ASUS TUF...

as of now, it is still in Win10, I just have not got up the energy to delve into taking it apart to replace the main SSD with the new one.

but, my point for today, is that this laptop has 5g WiFi, and also with it having a 16gB video RAM separate from the PC RAM, also 16gB, this thing is just blazingly fast.

Every time I need to go back and retrieve things from my older ASUS TP500L laptop, which only has 2.4g WiFi, the difference in speed on the internet becomes painfully obvious.

so, whilst I wait for my energy levels to climb, I am using Win10 for normal surfing on the internet.

5g is 3-5 times faster than 2.4g and when you have a PC that is fast to start with, it is hard to go back to the old, slower stuff.

now, the older laptop has a 2.4gHz cpu, and it has 12gB of RAM...
so it is no slouch when it comes to working with files that are already on the PC..... today I used it for about an hour because it has all of my data files on it.

Win10 irks me a lot, Screenshots are a PITA, have to take them full screen and then use GIMP to pull out the desired image......
in Linux, Screenshot gives me 3 options,
  • Full Screen
  • ?? forget,
  • and Draw a box around what you want.
I so miss that in Win10

John, Try "Snipping Tool" under "Windows Accessories", Lets you draw a box around what you want to snip.

... And I bet you'd just love "Classic Shell" running on Win 10, that fixes a lot of things about 10 that irk me...

Been using Classic Shell on Win7 for years, and it was essential on early releases of Win 8.

Classic Shell works on 7, 8, 10 and the various flavors of Windows Server. Server 2012 has particularly bad start menu, fixes it nicely

Here's a screenshot with Win10 Snipping tool. New posts in "Computer Talk" never show up in "Recent Discussions" and I wish "Fun Forum" posts didn't.... Should adjust that.

There is easy, though unadvertised way to prevent unwanted forums to show up in a search for "New Posts" that you want, not what the forum presents by default.

Mine is like this: had to break this up to prevent the forum from creating a short link.

https://
www DOT goldwingfacts DOT com/forums/search.php?do=getnew&exclude=8,7,11

You make this your "Home Page for the Browser".

then when you click on "Home", or the House in Firefox, it will automatically sort out the fluff.
you can experiment with the digits to see which forums they cause to be deleted.
I don't remember anymore which one does what.

Taken to extremes, you could cause everything but one forum to be hidden.

7,8,11 for me, hides
  • New Members
  • Fun
  • For Sale
being a Moderator, my very first interest is to see what is in my Primary Need to See stuff.

Once I have viewed all of my "need to see" threads, I then use the "New Posts" button at the top of the page to see what else is new.

I have installed ClassicShell now on this new laptop in Win10,
and it is installed on my Win7 Desktop for years, had just forgotten about it.

and bringing SnapTool shortcut to the TaskBar makes life for me immensely more enjoyable now while I slug thru Win10.
Almost makes it comfortable?? no no no, I did not say that.
