My 1500 aspencade with american spec ( lights on all the time ) needs a new battery i think, i just got it and was told the varta battery was new, but it only lasts a day or two before it goes flat, what is the best type and make to get, and do they all go flat so fast.

I would test my charging system with a voltage meter, you may need a new alternator.

battery stays in bike all winter!

started my bike for the first time today cranked for 1 min. then fired & kept running

Gel batteries have good results by members here compared to acid filled ones. If you mount a battery tender in your wing & plug it in when she sits, you should always have a topped up battery. Wings do not charge aggressively & at lower rpms, your battery might be draining due to the load from your lighting.

You should get readings off your battery around 13.8 to 14 volts at 3000 rpm but at idle it will drop.
