What causes the GL1100 Ignition Control Modual to melt

I am new to the Forum and I ride a 1980 GL1100 Gold Wing. It is in excellent condition and low mileage. I would like to keep it on the road as long as possible.

I would like to ask if anyone knows why both the Ignition Control Moduals melted all the sealer from the back of the box??? (OKI-MPS-200) PN 30400-MA4-601.

The bike still runs good so they are not defective just melted.

Before I replace them it would be nice to know if there is some other problem that caused them to melt so I can fix that problem first.

Any help with this problem would be appreciated.

They just do that..you can run like that or refill with epoxy. Not a big deal. If you want to replace I have several sets $25 and one set is yours.
The "ignition modules " 2 of them mounted back to back, get hot because the plugs connecting them are filthy. Remove the modules, clean the bolts and nut, then clean both male and female connectors. At the connectors check for frayed wires, then spray them with brake cleaner, operate them a few times them respray and blow out with compressed air. Make/break them a few more times and check the male to female connections

Fill in the evaporated tar with caulking, reassemble, test on occasion with a hand feeling for heat
