What do you guys use for helmet locks?

How do you store your helmets on your bike? I'm seeking a convenient way to hang the helmets on the bike and lock them for safety while I'm inside some store or restaurant. I know some of you have mentioned helmet hangers. What do you use that is the most convenient and safe?

I just use the helmet locks on the trunk if I dont have room in the trunk at the time.

I use helmet extenders that I paid five dollars for the pair. I only secure my helmets to the bike when I am in a strange area or have a "bad feeling" about an area. Mostly I just sit our helmets on the seat of the bike and nobody bothers them. Maybe we should lock them up but just never think about it much.

Put 'em in the top box, it takes two. :)

I just leave them on the seat. In 40 years of riding I've never had anyone bother them. Maybe because I use cheap helmets.

i tend to put them in the top box

I put them in the box when there is room - usually on my daily commutes when pillion rider Pennyis not with me. When she is - it is the extenders for the Wings built in Helmet Keepers.

I have used the $5 "T" shaped helmet extenders. I just decided to get the "Arrow Shaped" extenders and they should be here in a day or two. Gotta look classy riding about the country don't you know...

:action:

But... if you're really wanting to save money in the down economy... don't use anything but the stock helmet keepers... just loop your chin strap cleat through it - it all works the same. Just ease of use and looks is the difference.

Have you considered goldy locks?

Helmet locks under the trunk.

Let's assume the top box is full as well.

So all of you are saying there are helmet locks on the back of this thing? Hmmm. Well, guess I better start getting familiar with my bike. I've washed the bike several times and just don't recall any.
I don't know, I'm not all that high on putting a three or four hundred dollar helmet on the seat and coming back out to find it missing. There are some aftermarket things, but I was hoping there'd be some super suggestions here. I'll google again and explore this further. I know Kuryakian makes something but it seems to go on the end of their heated grips. There are some that mount to a tubular handle bar arrangement. There must be something I can put on the rear that won't look bad.

$$ are not in question. Maybe I'm missing my built in helmet keepers. I'll go out and look. I don't recall any. Must be there. Then there's the question as to how in the heck could you lock them in? The straps are easily undone. I'm just trying to deter the quick hit parking lot thief.

Those are those things you hang the chrome nekkid ladies from in back.

inside your trunk toward the rear of the bike - may be slightly recessed there should be two levers at approximately your elbows distance apart as you are standing behind the bike. flip these levers and the keepers pop down (they are under your trunk).

the metal D-ring on your helmet will slip on there and you press them up and they lock. When you lock your trunk they cannot be opened (well at least casually) - no helmet theif will bother "walking off" with them - they can't.

The dangly metal thingys are hooked on to the Helmet Keepers under the trunk - sorry best pic I could find...

Here is a pic as to how the extenders work with the D-ring. But as I said you could just slip the D-ring over the lockable keeper.

Thank you Blackdog (by the way what is your first name?)

I did find the hooks. I also found an extender under the trunk mat. So far I have not figured out how to open the hooks but I was busy mowing the lawn this evening and now I should sit down to some supper. I'd like to take a ride but not tonight I guess.

Here's a real puzzler. I just cut the lawn, what a pain. Then I put down some fertilizer. Why? So I have to cut the lawn more often? :gunhead:

If I ever figure myself out, I'm going to be dangerous.

Well I don't have $400.00 helmets (mine are about %70.00 each) on my 1100 I have helmet hangers on the bars where the hadlebar mounted mirrors go and just hang them there

I know it is rare but I had a some scumb bag cut my strap and stole helmet from the trunk lock a while back. I was parked at a mall in a space nearest the building with people everywhere. At least he didn't screw with the bike.

There's always some idiot out there waiting to steal or damage someone's stuff. It is good that he left your bike alone. I had some stupid thief wannabee try to steal my car stereo a few years back when I was sleeping in a hotel along I-5 in Oceanside CA. He couldn't get it out so he proceeded to vandalize my car. I woke up and looked out the hotel window. He saw me and bolted.

I did find the levers Dave. I also found the little compartment under the trunk mat that I did not know existed. I half expected a little spare tire donut in there. :cheeky1:

Bach, you are cracking me up.:D:D:D

Hey, don't feel bad. I didn't know my,electric start, four wheeler had a pull start until my son jumped off and yanked on it. I didn't say anything to him, but the look on my face must of been puzzling. I've been pushing it around in neutral cause it had a dead battery.

That compartment is for the 6 CD changer.
