Wait until we can weed out a problem.
So that we can read only what the "powers to be" want us to read?

VERY disappointed!

I guess I just have more faith in the "rank and file" of this group to be able to deal with "trolls" and not have "big brother" decide who is a "troll"!

I cannot divulge Private Messages,
but I can tell you that I have received a few PMs in the last few days concerning the Troll, and all of them guessed precisely who that was, and said " good riddance "

All of them thanked the Mods for the work we do, and it is a non-paying position.

It is hard to try and be a policeman, and yet, at the same time: " Just be one of the guys, or gals "

that is why, it is so hard to entice members to be a Moderator.

Now, as to the Troll.... the mods did background research, and sought out his posts in other forums.... it was very interesting to note that on one forum specifically he was so full of himself, that all of his posts predate the time he joined this forum.

and it was this research, to be sure of what we did, that we asked that you be patient and allow us to figure out the facts.

and in the end, it was a 100% vote of all mods to ban the Troll.

Why is it called trolling?

What does it mean to troll on social media?

A social media troll, by definition, is someone who creates conflict on sites like Twitter, Facebook and Reddit by posting messages that are particularly controversial or inflammatory with the sole intent of provoking an emotional (read: angry) response from other users.

Being a moderator isn't fun, now try doing this job on 3 forums and keeping it clean and civil. There's no medals or certificates for doing this job its voluntary.
Imagine taking charge of a forum that has been decimated by spam and cleaning it up to grow the membership. Not fun at all weeding out the problems, spending days going through the membership to find the spammers, removing spam blogs and posts, going through IPs for dirty ones and email addresses and you do this all on 'YOUR' time to make forums enjoyable for others. I could do better things with my time, but I too am a member just like you and I really don't want to read posts about diet pills or making my computer faster or bad behavior.

There's no violins or symphony orchestra.
If anyone feels up to the challenge of being a moderator, contact the admin and step up, give it a try.

I was a moderator for several years for a web hosting company. I scoured members sites for illegal content etc. You would not believe the things I came across, i.e. child porn, drugs for sale etc. Several times I would have to make reports to the proper authorities. Dealing with "trolls" on the sites forums was the least of my worries and regular honest members would make short work of them and away they would go.

Looking back, the most disagreeable thing we have to deal with is Trolls.

the other things, like Merge threads is common place and easy to handle, and does not irritate anyone.

Passwords used to be a real headache because the email system does not work well, if you have changed your email address and lost the old one. To resolve that, I posted up my personal cellphone number in the Error, Password incorrect statement....

I have not had any calls at all that I can trace back to posting up my phone number that way,
but I do get a lot of calls from members expressing relief at hearing a human voice and being able to get their passwords fixed.
