I'm stayin' out of the middle of this!

Redwing's post made absolutely no sence to me and I figured, from the way I read it, thathe was a little confused but I didn't want to say anything.

Itry to be nice to elders!:cheeky1:

I want to thank everyone for the input. It sounds like the rubber compound is better than it used to be. It also sounds like I need to check the bike over good before I start hating the Dunlops. FYI they are Elite II, new treadwise, but maybe a couple of years old.

Just 'cause no one pays you doesn't mean you don't work. One of these days I'll go back to real work for a rest. It's a sad story being unemployed like I am, just go ahead and throw me into the briar patch!

On1100 Metzelers would get about 17-20k in the rear and about 30k in the front. I put a set of ME-880's on my 86 Aspencade in March I now have 6k on the front and the tread depth was 7/32" new and now it's just under 6/32". So they look to be good for 30 K. The back has 2,200 on them and new I had 9/32" now I have a little over 8/32". It looks It's early but I should be able to get 20K out of it. I like the Metzelers in the rain better but I think the Dunlops get just a little bit better mileage.

I was just reminded by a post I read on another board - I like the way the 880s feel when I ride across tar snakes. No uncertainty. My Dunlops always felt like they were going to just slide right off the things.

I have a GL 1800 and I've had real good luck with most of the tires I've tried. I've been getting around 12,000 to 14,000 miles on a set.I put some Avon this last time and the are the worst tires I have ever used. By 4000 miles they were starting to cup very badly and by 8000 miles they sound like a 4 wheel drive going down the road. I'm going to change them this next week. I guess the Dunlop have been the best. It always made me wonder why motorcycle tires cost so much and don't last near as long ??

I generally get about 10-12K on rear, a little more on the front. However, with the pair of E3's I had, I got more on the rear than the front. The Michelin set I replaced them with did not do that well mileage-wise - about 7K to the wear bands. I did prefer the ride of the Michelin's - the E3's made the front-end feel 'squirrly' and the rear end howled like a wolf, especially when slowing down through about 40 MPH. Both complaints are common with the E3's. I complained to Dunlop at one of the Honda Hoot's and they said the noise was 'necessary' to give you the good grip and handling characteristics the engineers wanted!

Former road racer here. On my ole 88 interstate w/ Dunlope Elite lls, I get 13k Rear and 15k, Front... But I "Spec" my tire preasure, " I run 49- 52lbs rear"

Velvetrider.
Did you input wrong data on your interstate? That's an 83 in the picture, looks good by the way. I like the way the Metzlers felt on the 83 Aspy I had but in three sets had 2 tire seperations on rear, big chunks, and would get 5-8k out of a rear, hard riding, lots o twisties :action:.

The Dunlop E3s that were on this 1500 got 14k out of them, Dan rode mild to mid range riding and I put 4k on them before they got to the wear bars. Have another set on there now. They feel good on dry, Have the Toys for Tots ride today in Oceanside @10am, lite rain @ 6am, possible heavy later, so will see how they do on the wet roads.

Happy Thanksgiving! :byebye:
