I found a cable that had a rheostat attached to it in the handlebar area of my (new to me) 1500. The cable appears to be a factory unit and the rheostat is the type used for light dimming or radio controls. I'm not missing anything on the radio. Any ideas?

Picture attached.

What happens if you turn the rheostat?

It is the fader for the speakers. I also found one on my 1990SE when I was cleaning out the rats nest of wiring from the Previous Owners. It is aftermarket as they didn't include the fader until 1994. If you follow it out...you will see that it is connected to a cream colorplug and a black plug under the left side cover nearwhere theCBis (or would be)located.

A radio fader sounds about right. Nothing changes on the radio or lighting when I turn it , so it is probably disconnected somewhere. I'll follow the wire the next time I have some of the plastic off and see where it goes.

Thanks for the response
