Going to look at a 2002, or 2003 (ad says both) 33K. Pics look good but is there anything I should be looking for?
Not the obvious, but did those years have any particular issues?

If the FI light isn't on and it's a good price and you ride it you will buy it. I think any with the frame crack issue have long since been fixed, if it hasn't by now it's not going to. I also think it was caused by the weak springs, they bottom out real easy on stock springs.

There is a know issue with the ECM for 01-05 models. The right hand knock sensor circuit in the ECM fails . It will set a code. If you have this problem it will have a stutter or stall taking off from a stop . ( thats how my 03 acted) other than that it was ridable. Last I checked an ECM was close to a Grand . Not sure if they are still available NEW from mother H. I would be suspect of used units.
Other than that one problem ( which was corrected) I was very happy with my 03.

FWIW,

I bought an '02 with 98,000 miles and rode it like I stole it.
it did have one mod on it, a set of Traxxion Springs,
and as for cracks?

if it was going to crack, it would have done that 15 years ago or more.

as for the ECM, one of the Knock sensor contacts in the ECM might fail, mine did, found a used one for $40 and kept on riding

you can keep riding it, w/o replacing the ECM, you loose about 4 mpg, whoopee.

any ECM from '01 to '05 will work, I found an '04, worked perfect

That's why I made the remark about the FI light.

As far as cracks, look around the gussets on the frame behind the passenger footrests. These were not icluded in the frame recall. May be hard to see or may just look like a scratch in the paint. Honda reinforced these areas on the late 2005 models.

Well, I finally got down to look at it. It hasn't been cared for all that well.
Quite a few small but noticeable scratches and weathered spots. The wheels will need sanding and re-coating.
Worst of all, the rear brake pedal had a couple of inches of travel, making it useless, and both forks have been leaking profusely.
It ran fine and all the gizmos seemed to work. I got the cruise control to set at 82mph, so someone must have done something with it.
I suppose for a 21 year old motorcycle it would be okay, but he's asking a premium price, so I'll probably pass.

A GL1800 has no restrictions in cruise control.
With regard to the wheels, it has been possible to buy at least the rear wheel very cheaply due to the many trike conversions.
Brake pedal? , MAYBE it is just a venting of the system? , hard to say, but it's probably not the brake pads as a GL1800 brakes on both wheels, no matter if you use the foot or the handbrake. The front fork MAYBE just need a couple of new packing boxes?
How many miles and what is the asking price?

to put that in perspective,
I paid $7,000 for my 1800 with 98,000 miles on it.

it was at the Russellville Honda dealership, so it was spiffed up nice and shiny
it was on the showroom floor six months, and no takers.

it had Traxxion front end on it even... they sold it at NADA, dropped a $1,000 when I got there, as I had driven to them from Oologah.
the advert was for $8k

they made it plain, that Addons are useless for sales values

give him a week to think, then go back and negotiate it down a bit.
I bought a rear wheel cheap and put a car tire on it, so I could switch back n forth to a M/C tire

I have my eye on another one, too. Same year but I have a question for those with color vision. He says the bike is "green"...but Honda doesn't list a green for that year. Is it a matter of his vision, or...?

It could be green for all I know as my color vision is bad, and getting worse.

My take is that it's the same color as the first one I looked at.

Maybe just the lighting, but Honda only had a Stream Silver Metallic in 2002. They did have a Challenger Brown Metallic(titanium) in 2004. It did have a green tint.
Check the colorite site. They show the colors.
Another thing wrong is the 2002 did not have a vented windshield unless it was replaced with a later model or aftermarket shield. The 2004 did have a vent.
