I've been contemplating a flip-up licenseplate mount that'd cover the connector when not in use. Only bit of worry I see there is ensuring that I won't have the trailer wires rubbing up the paint on the bike's tail.

I did a recessed mount behind the reflecto for one guy that was nice but a bit hard for me to "use" -- a second trailer plug was mounted to the rear of the reflector so that the plug from the reflector gave a tail/stop light function AND kept the bike-side socket covered and clean. What troubled me about it was that connector was used to hold the updated reflector in position and had to be tight enough to kinda make removing the reflector part a pain with nothing to hold onto (thought that next time I'd add some grab-wings made from thin stainless or something if I did another)
