Hadn't ridden in a little over a month due to bad weather and other assorted excuses. Well, Saturday I sensed it was time. It was a little overcast but I said what the heck and dressed in my finest riding attire. Jumped on the Wing and grabbed the clutch handle in preparation for rocking her off the center stand and.... no clutch at all.

I jumped off and opened the reservoir. It was bone dry. I looked under the bike, no trace of a leak either on the garage floor or the bottom of the bike. I opened my service manual and read up on how to change the fluid. After flushing the system with clean new brake fluid, I once again had a clutch. I then took her for a 60 mile ride. The clutch functioned perfectly without any hint of a problem. when I got back, the fluid level was unchanged.

I've owned her for about 2.5 years and have never checked the clutch fluid and never had a clutch problem. Last time I rode, a little over a month ago, I covered over 300 miles and had no hint of a problem.

The fluid obviously didn't leak out while it was sitting in the garage and, to my knowledge, it doesn't just evaporate. So where did it go? and more importantly, will it go there again? Should I carry a bottle of brake fluid in my saddlebag for emergencies?

btw: I just checked it again and the level is unchanged and there is no fluid on the garage floor.

Welcome to forum, from Waco Tx. No experience with the hydraulic but I remember reading somewhere that if the slave was leaking on the backside it will drip into the engine leaving no trace on the exterior. Could be there was just a bit of trash slipped by the seal and let it drain the fluid. Quite sure more experenced with the hyd. clutch slaves will be along shortly :waving:Keno

Yep, I concur, most likely the slave cylinder leaked into the engine case. I'd recommend running the engine a few minutes to get the stuff mixed into the oil and change it first. After that it sounds like the time to get new seals and rebuild the slave.

it went somewhere? and if you couldn't see it guess it went where you couldn't see it. unless someone had maybe flushed it and bleed it and didn't put enough fluid in it and:shock: na it went in your engine. just keep a check on it if it doesn't do it again the aliens took it and don't worry they never strike in the same place twice.

Thanks all. Never heard of it leaking into the engine but it sure is nice to know. I'll keep an eye on the level and it it continues to disappear, I'll do a rebuild. With all the rain we're having around here, I'm sure I can schedule it in, lol.

Thanks again. :)

the seal for the slave is on the engine side that's why you haven't seen the leak.:(

I rebuilt my 1200 ,haven't had a problem with the 1500 but it wasn't hard at all and I just checked and EBAY has the kits for around $20.00 ,I'm pretty sure thats where I got mine for the 1200.
