I just got a 81 GL1100. It is in great shape and runs well. There is some starter issues, specifically on warmer days. I have read through this forum and it is a great wealth of information. I believe I have things narrowed down to the starter, so I want to replace it, if anything, it is the original starter, so I am sure things are dirty inside it. I would like to hear where you all like to get parts for your bike? I know I will be needing a rear tire before the summer is over and I also like to have a good reliable place to order parts from, any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff in Iowa.

for genuine honda parts, i typically use Service Honda. they have the parts fiche available online, if you want to find out the part number for a local dealer purchase. Tires I typically get locally. most other parts are sourced through eBay. I havent had to get a starter yet, so I cant help with a source there though

Another one,

And the place I order tires,

I use Dunlop 404s, I go through 2 rear and 1 front a year. I tried Metzler 88s, I didn't notice much difference. I mount them myself, and don't bother balancing them. I commute about 6-7 hundred miles a week, as long as there is no ice on the road.

I ordered my starter from ebay, don't remember the seller. I should check into having the old one rebuilt, if I can find it in the barn somewhere...

glad to hear of another older wing being put back in service. it seems some times to be more of a chore than its worth some times---but its worth it ! the 81 was a good one. from 80 through 83 . a lot of parts were interchangeable . a lot of parts are avable too. just shop around and compare and dont get in a hurry with it. best of luck with it. dont be afraid to ask questions here.
