Where do you get your parts?

I just got a 81 GL1100. It is in great shape and runs well. There is some starter issues, specifically on warmer days. I have read through this forum and it is a great wealth of information. I believe I have things narrowed down to the starter, so I want to replace it, if anything, it is the original starter, so I am sure things are dirty inside it. I would like to hear where you all like to get parts for your bike? I know I will be needing a rear tire before the summer is over and I also like to have a good reliable place to order parts from, any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff in Iowa.

Hi Jeff.. and welcome to the site....

there is a great wealth of information including places that people buy parts.. as for the starter, I haven't ever bought one.. I know that the chinese knock-offs sometimes have problems but don't know anything else(but this will bump it to the top and maybe someone else cna provide info)

for genuine honda parts, i typically use Service Honda. they have the parts fiche available online, if you want to find out the part number for a local dealer purchase. Tires I typically get locally. most other parts are sourced through eBay. I havent had to get a starter yet, so I cant help with a source there though

Your starter i would take to local alternator motor repair shop and have overhauled, ask around and find one with good rep. save big $$ for many other parts i can't say enough about gary at cyclemax ohio great guy, very helpful, also bikebandit. good luck

Ill say it seems high, I checked his other listings, and he is out of this world on most things (350 bucks for an LTD fuel pump,I can get an aftermarket one for about 170 (damn did they go up since I got mine))

I have just been through a restoration on my 81 GL1100i. I bought most of my parts from eBay but very careful about sellers. I certainly agree DO NOT use SaberCycle (or as they are better known (Saber Psycho).

Another site for OEM with pretty good pricing is http://honda.dgy.com/home_honda.asp?sid=08686029X6K10K2009J6I24I49JPMQ2841R1

Also give andy (straightwings) a try www.straightwings.com . He's been able to help me out a couple of times already.

Another one,

And the place I order tires,
http://www.americanmototire.com/
I use Dunlop 404s, I go through 2 rear and 1 front a year. I tried Metzler 88s, I didn't notice much difference. I mount them myself, and don't bother balancing them. I commute about 6-7 hundred miles a week, as long as there is no ice on the road.

I ordered my starter from ebay, don't remember the seller. I should check into having the old one rebuilt, if I can find it in the barn somewhere...

glad to hear of another older wing being put back in service. it seems some times to be more of a chore than its worth some times---but its worth it ! the 81 was a good one. from 80 through 83 . a lot of parts were interchangeable . a lot of parts are avable too. just shop around and compare and dont get in a hurry with it. best of luck with it. dont be afraid to ask questions here.

I bought a rebuilt Japanese starter from here ; http://www.stockers.com/PShondastreet.htm
It works great and no problems. Went through 2 Chinese starters in about a year, so avoid those if possible.
