I agree that you should look for '06+ (personal preference for '06 - '10). With the '06, they got the frame fracture problem finally fully resolved, did a mild re-map on the engine, rearranged the dash, added rear speakers standard, and put in an 80 watt stereo amp. 2010 models were the last built in the USA (built in '09 because they sold off equipment early '10). There are no 2011 models. 2012s and up built in Japan and have different plastic.

For these years there are several levels, each building on the previous with slight year-to-year changes:
Premium Audio is the base model
Comfort adds heated grips and seat plus flaps to direct air from across the headers at your feet
Navigation adds a GPS (lots of argument as to its usefulness)
ABS adds, well - ABS (wish this was available as second level)
Airbag - some have claimed remarkable protection, primarily from head-on to a tree or T-boning a mini van.

We traveled US 70 through Texas (actually to the end in Globe, AZ) May of '19. 75 MPH limit. Our '06 held at least that in cruise with two 200 pounders up pulling a PACKED Uni-go trailer.

The one disadvantage to the '06+ would be that to "just roll the rear tire out the back" after removing the rear fender, you also have to move or remove a sizeable stereo amp that was installed behind the rear tire. And, if you have a trailer hitch it has to be removed (although some have a removable center sectio). I just throw down some mats and lay'er down for a nap. Have less than a half tank of gas, pull the center stand out to pick the rear up another couple inches, and there you go. I have a spare (trike take-off) wheel that goes on while the main goes to Walmart to get a new run flat car tire mounted. Ten minute job for me. Several Youtube videos (including mine on Bartman's channel) showing it. Some say they couldn't see laying the bike on its side. You'd better know how to pick the fat girl back up! Butt on the seat, and use your legs. Highway pegs and such add-ons may need removal. Baker airwings can stay.
