Which wing to buy

I'm new to this site and have found it very helpful.
I have a 1983 Wing (1100) and am ready to move up to a 1500 or 1800. Price is a factor and I would like to stay under $12,000. I have several questions.

1) What are the pro's and con's of the 1500s and 1800s?

2) What were the "sweet" years of the 1500s?

3) What might my '83 be worth? I overhauled the engine about two years ago (rings, bearings, timing chain, valve guides, water pump, etc.). The bike has 57,000 miles on it- that includes about 10,000 miles on the overhauled engine. The bike has a fair amount of chrome. The only problem is some drive chain growl when first taking off (can be controlled by keeping engine rpm up). It cruises well at 70-80 mph. Floyd seems to me you already own the best wing 83 1100 a great bike. I own a 82 1100 and a 88 1500 had the 82 for 23 years still the best fun to ride.The 1500 is very comfitable ride but not in the same league, if your riding solo stick with what you have.:waving::waving::waving:

Get the newest you can afford. Of course you should take condition into consideration as well.

Test ride them both that might make the decision for you. With your budget you should be able to buy a late model 1500 in excellent condition or an 1800 in good condition. If you do your own maintenance the 1500 is going to be a lot simpler and cheaper to work on. If you want the best possible performance the 1800 is the way to go.

Look for bikes like yours on eBay to get a handle on prices.

Fesaner, I,ve had them all from 75 up and in my opinion ONLY the 1500 for comfort. The 1800 for response. and handeling. The difference to me is like night and day. If I were you I would ride them both. My 97 I totally took care of myself except for tire changes easy to work on, and in general a great bike will go as fast as the 1800 just does not get there as quick. The 1800 is harder to do your own maint. couse I have only had it a year but put 28000 miles on it and have done nothing major to it but it seams harder to work on because of the tupperware.
