Test ride them both that might make the decision for you. With your budget you should be able to buy a late model 1500 in excellent condition or an 1800 in good condition. If you do your own maintenance the 1500 is going to be a lot simpler and cheaper to work on. If you want the best possible performance the 1800 is the way to go.
Look for bikes like yours on eBay to get a handle on prices.
