Ah,the delights of what's left of Pax Brittanica
Our licences are issued by State Transport depts for up to 5 years, but 3rd party personal accident insurance is available from commercial companies, billed on the vehicle registration notice from the transport dept & paid to that dept. ie can't get rego without 3rd party ins. ins premium is regulated by the state so there is little variance in the cost of the compulsory cover. Of course, the state then levies stamp duty on the insurance just for good luck

ps got a shock when registering the gl1500. Rego rates are on number of cylinders - effectively same as car rates
Great legacy left by Capt Bligh! Considering we only use 6" of the road it is getting ridiculous:wtf:
