Ken just wait, if the NDP get in they can go into overdrive and push government into more corners of your life.

Where is Bill Vander Zalm when you need him ?

.
Ken,

Hodgy's right. We've had the NDP here for 13 years now. The province is in total disarray with the government having no idea of how to get themselves out of the mess they created.
Our motorcycle insurance rates make BC's look cheap, MPIC (public insurer) controls licensing, registration and insurance. Government runs annual deficits in the $500 million range and routinely scoops insurance profits for general revenue. And just last week they announced an increase of the PST. Stickler is that there's a law requiring a referendum prior to any tax increases. Their solution? Change the law.
Most unfortunate thing is that when the NDP won office from the PCs the province was running surpluses with a hefty rainy day fund on the side. The NDP exhausted the rainy day fund prior to 2008 and now we have no fall backs. And are they tightening their belts as you and I would if our household were overspending? Not a chance.
Just giving you a heads up before you elect an NDP government into your paradise.
I have a couple more years of working for the Man and then I'm thinking I may just move into Hodgy's back yard on a permanent basis. Was thinking about a retirement move to BC but an NDP government would sour that idea.

ps got a shock when registering the gl1500. Rego rates are on number of cylinders - effectively same as car rates
Oh, to be that lucky! My motorcycle insurance rates are several hundred dollars more than those on my Honda Accord. And I can only ride my bike about 5-6 months of the year.

And my rates are not pro-rated, meaning I pay the total annual rate over 5 months. No putting plates on in spring and removing them in fall to save some cash.

No matter where you live, there's always someone with a sadder insurance tale living someplace else - until you live in the socialist infested jurisdiction I do. We have the dubious distinction of having the most expensive motorcycle insurance in the world.
