Why do some like the 1500 more than the 1800?

I kind of remember reading somewhere that the GL1500 was by far the best Wing ever made. I may have even read it twice, possibly on another forum plus here. My question is why would anyone think or say that? It seems to me and always has been that the best power there is will always be the power that you don't need but is always there. The styling is superior in my opinion and I like the fact that the brakes are even more linked than my 95 GL1500. Anti Locks, Air Bags, Fuel Injection, I don't get it, why would anyone say the 1500 is better than the 1800? I certainly don't want to start a mud slinging thread here but having never rode (but dreamed of many times) an 1800 I just don't see how anyone who owned both bikes could like the 15 over the 18. Please educate me!

Well now, should I search for "GL1500", "GL1800" or "GL1500 vs. GL1800"? I have a feeling that this is going to be one heck of a search! Is the answer a secret? Can't someone just tell me a general reason why they're preferred? Is it because of the prettier colors or maybe the seat is more comfortable? I called my local Honda dealer for the answerand the salesman told me that the 1800 is far superior and they just happened to have one in stock. Imagine that!

I have never owned an 1800, so all I can say is that I love my 1500. I suspect that if I ever got on an 1800 it would be instant love. They are two distinctly different bikes, really not sharing anything except the legendary Honda quality and longevity. Some riders prefer the styling of the 1500 over the 1800...headlights seem to create the greatest stir. I will probably never own an 1800 just because of the cost involved. My 1500 is paid for! It runs perfectly and gets me to the exact same spot at the exact same time an 1800 does (given the laws are followed!).:action::action::action: It may not have some of the advantages of the 1800, but it is good enough for me. You will have to make up your own mind by riding both.

My preferencefor the 1500 is that it is smoother and more comfortable on long rides than the 1800 and that's what I use mine for and that's why I bought it. I have another bike for other purposes. AND last but not least I refuse to pay $20k for a motorcycle.

Different people like different things from a bike. For me, having ridden an 1800, I can say it is sporty but not as comfortable overall. Less luggage space too.
From what I have seen the 1500 is viewed as the luxuory (sp?) tourer and the 1800 while a tourer is seen as a rocket tourer.

I Just LOVE my 1500 (and I Have too much tied up in it to let it go) LOL!I rode a 1800 at a ralley when they first came out and wasn't that impressed.OH! and my 1500 is paid for no payments from my Navy Retirement or Social sec. Check lol!

I got my 97 1500SE because it was the most bikeI could pay for as I don't likemonthly payments.
If I'd had the cash in hand, I'd be riding an 1800.

Everybody is different, but my wife and I both like the ride on the 1800. The performance of the 1800 is much better IMHO. The two bikes feel completely different. I can see why people would refer the older bikes. I think the 1200 and 1500 are both better looking and custom accessories look better on them.
I also like the ride of my 1200 better than I did the 1500. For certain conditions I prefer the ride of the 1200 over the 1800. I wish I still had it. That was a great bike.
We had a decked out 03-1800. We had not even made the first payment when my son totaled it. Luckily we still had the 1200. We then bought a 99 1500 SE due to the cost of another 1800. After taking a couple road trips on the 1500 we both decided that we would like another 1800.
We bought the 05 cheaper than the 03 because we didn't add the chrome and cd player, but neither one was cheap. You only live once and we really like to ride so it was not that hard to pull the trigger either time.
Our first date was a trip on my 1200. I'm still not sure if she fell for me or the wing.:cheeky1:

for me the 1500 was great on open road,lots of leg room,comfortable,good looks.not great in parking lots,u turns,wallows in tight turns,but I lovbed it.
My 1800 has lots of power,easy in tight turns,balances better at slow speed,did I say lots of power? not as comfortable,legs to far under my butt.I think I will keep her though.Did I say it has lots of power?

$$ is definatley an issue for some, I couldn't afford an 1800, but I could afford $4500 for a 1500, I feel I got alot of bike for the buck, and it does ride nice!

The GL1500se did look better right out of the showroom with the 2-tone paint, the GL1800 is a bit plain in comparison. But anyone I know who has or had both models say the 1800 goes handles and stops much better and has more pillion room, but the 1500 has more luggage space and is more comfortable for tall riders.

I priced out my 1500 with trailer and everything on it for actual replacement value and it came out to $21,900. So it would not be a money issue for me since I have that in the 1500. It has enough power to do anything I need done and responsiveness isn't an issue beyond what it will do already.
It fits me. I guess I'm a bit old school and prefer the carbs, comfort, larger storage and a steel frame.
The only thing I would change about it is, I would like to have an easier time of changing rear tires like the 1800 has.
I guess I don't have any sport bike leanings.

I was wondering the same thing myself because for me the styling of the 1800 is awesome and the 1200/1500 is frumpy old mannish. As far as price is concerned I'm not convinced that an 1800 is more $$$ now than the 1500s were then. Of course prices in Canada have nothing in common with prices in the U$.
