Does anyone know if the wig wag one that flashes the stop lights alternating back and forth before coming on steady is legal in all states in the USA???

They claim it is and they've sold lots of them. I have their Back Off modulator but don't think it's as attention getting as their Wig Wag unit. A worth while safety device in my opinion.

I have to ask. No one has ever answered this question, at least not to my satisfaction. Why does it blink or wig-wag and then come on steady? If I am sitting at a traffic light I want the brake lights to blink the whole time I am sitting there. I have a headlight modulator and a second modulator on the brake lights. At the risk of sounding sarcastic let me apologize ahead of time, "It' Your BUTT" do you really want the brake lights to stop blinking?

I got stopped in Texas for a wig-wag brake light I had installed on my '82. I was a 6" x 2" light with 3 halogen bulbs (each section2" x 2") made by a company named Back*Off. When you hit the brake the outside lamps would flash back and forth for 3 seconds, the center lamp was always lit when the brakes were on. After 3 seconds all the lamps would stay on steady. Being halogen it was about 5 times brighter than the OEM brake light. A Texas Highway Patrol (DPS) pulled me over. I couldn't think of anything I had done wrong but once I stopped he turned off his emergency lights. I asked him if there was a problem. He said there was no problem, he just wanted to know where I bought the brake light, he wanted to get one for his bike (Kawasaki Police Special). He said he was about 6 blocks behind me when he saw it and it stuck out like a sore thumb. Sure wish I could find another one like it. Guess I'll have to make one from Super Bright LED's. They are a life saver.

It alternates left and right 4x and then blinks 4x. You have the option to wire it up so that it keeps doing it while the brake stays on or only once per brake light activation and then steady.

I can't say about other states but in Tennessee you can.t have flashing red lights on the front. On the rear though you are good to go!

I was just thinking that if they kept flashing 3x fast twice then once on for 3.5 seconds then start all over again as long as the brakes were held on that it might confuse someone behind me to think it was the four ways or something flashing. I'm open to thoughts about which is better

Mine is wired with a heavy duty flasher unit. It alternates side to side on the 2 bulbs in the trunk. The lower ones stay on steady. I like it that way. It was on the ike when I bought it and I have not studied the wiring but it works good and for the price of a flasher unit and a socket it certainly has to be cheaper. I am sure there is someone on here who knows how to wire it up.

I don't care what they think as long as it gets their attention. As a society we worry too much about what people think. Does political correctness sound familiar?

I think I like the way doug has it with the top two lights flashing as long as the brakes are held on and the lower two staying on steady.... time to do a little rewiring.

NOW!!!!! How about those head light modulators??????????????????

Headlight modulators ought to be standard equipment IMHO. I wouldn't ride without one. I've seen people do a double take and stop suddenly before they started to pull out in front of me.

A couple of rules of etiquette: 1. If you're riding in the back of a pack of bikes, shut it off. It's very annoying to those in front of you and they can get irritable.:)2. If you're in traffic, stopped behind a car, you might want to shut it off because it's distracting.

I have the Signal Dynamics, but there are other brands out there that are very good. Kisan is one and I can't recall the other.

These sound like a really good idea, but in europe I don't know if they are kosher. Anyone had a direct experience? :cooler:

I've been thinking about the mistaking the flashing as 4 ways and confusing the cagers. I don't care if you catch the rear end of the bike on fire, there is always going to be that one dumb sob that said "I didn't even see him". At least if they notice the blinking lights and mistake them for something other than what they are, they've still noticed.(I hope;))

That, headlight mods, and air horns are great attention getters. BTW, I just added an additional set of air horns to my scoot. Can you hear me now?!!!

Okay bye.:waving:

I heard ya the first time, but not anything since then...hehe I got my 139 dB horn on the bike, too.

I love the headlight modulators and have just got one for my GL1100 - and think the brake light modulator is getting pretty high on my list.

Good discussion!

I thought I'd give y'all a update on my personal brake light modulator installation that I just completed tonight. I bought the SigDyn Backoff XP and used the 4 short flashes then on for a bit, then it repeats mode. I thought from reading the specs that it might flash too fast but that is far from the case. It's pretty cool looking and if that stupid cager behind you is taking a nap with his/her eyes open it should get the point acrossthat thebike isn't moving. If a cage would happen to be looking away when you first apply your brakes, he might mistake the steady on as when you're are moving then bam.

The air horn addition is pretty dynamic. Now I have the stock horns, two different pitch high freq horns and two mid-range different pitch horns. The only problem that I've encountered is there is a pretty good power draw when all of this is going on.The compressors wouldn't spool up as strong as they needed soI ran a fused line from the battery to supply side of my relays. Voila' shee's feexed.:)I just can't wait tocoast up behind an un-suspecting bicyclist and give him a little rootytoot toot:cheeky1:Houston, we have lift-off.:cooldevil::cooldj:No, I wouldn't do that. I promise. Guy'd probably crash and die then I would feel bad.:grinner:

Anyway, I think I've about expounded long enough. I've commited the atrocity of verbosity.

Goodnight.

Not tryin to hijack this thread, but..........I was on theinterstate a couple of weeks ago at nightwhen a motorcop passed me.His bike had 2 small blue LEDs on the back, near the saddlebags. Those 2 small lights made him stand out in that fairly heavy traffic forover a mile ahead of me. There was no way you could not notice them. It was amazing how they stood out.Does anyone know if there is a law as to what color lights you may or may not install on the back? These would go a long way toward getting you noticed, at least in the dark.

I installed an LED light bar on the bottom of my trunk support and wired it to come on with the brake light. Then wired them both to a modulator that teacher told me about. They work great. The only thing is, after it flashes and goes to steady, you have to let off the brake pedal and press it again to get it to flash again. The only time I need to do this is at a stop light, and only until someone pulls up behind me. I saw a couple on a Harley almost get rammed from the rear at a stop light a few days ago. Big bike but his brake light was not very noticeable. How you miss something that big in front of you is beyond me, the cager was probably fiddling with the radio, texting or making a phone call. We need all the help we can get and a brake modulator is a great safety feature!
