Has anyone out here ever tried to swapfinal drivesfrom a 75 1000 to a 84-87 1200? The 75 has a 3.4 to 1 ratio while the 84 has a 2.8 to 1 ratio. There could be some big acceleration gains if this swap works.
I'd sure like to hear from you if you've accomplished this swap.
I didn't think they were compatable. The mounting bolts holes are in slightly different places and the driveshaft on the 1000 has less splines than the 1200 so I guess the driven gear in the 1200 is different as well. Can't say if you could just swap out the internals and keep the cases, that may be worth a look.
I doubt that swapping the guts will do either. There si a big difference in the two units and I don't believe that the GL1000bevel units will fit in the 1200 as they will be too small to fit on the housing mounts.
Thanks, and I believe you are absolutely correct because I just looked at photos of both units off the bikes and there are toomany differences between the units. Oh well, guess I'll have to figure out another way of upping the performance somehow.
