Looking for tricks and treats...as in any suggestions what to see and what not to see along the Carolina & Georgia Coast.

Leaving Winnipeg June 27 and as you can see on the avatar, there is a big chunk of eastern coast without a line on it. What's her name even got us a GPS for this year (Hope she knows how to use it!!) Hell, we might not even get lost this year.

I have been busy as of late as we had a real late spring, actually **** weather until2 weeks ago or so. Built my new motorcycle shop, as What's Her Name has taken over the double bay garage. Spent the last 2 weeks getting lots done to the 96 and the trailer and I'm near road ready. Time to get a new trailer soon, real interested in a Travelite Camper if anyone has one up for sale, let me know.

While working on the 96, my shock boot was ready to be replaced. Of course mother Honda doesn't sell one without the shock - $302.00. Stopped at a Shock & Strut outfit and he gave me one in good shape he just pulled of a car. A bit of adapting and it worked out great other than trying to get the shock lined up again to get the bottom bolt started...uugghh...

Worst job was replacing dash bulbs...had one burnt out on the speedo and after all the freakin work to get at the dash, replaced all 15 - $40 worth of bulbs and well worth it if I don't have to disassemble 1/2 the bike again.

Brakes done and system flushed, back tire changed, final drive changed, located wiring short (inside the LED disc cover lights), dash lights, shock boot, trailer tires, bearings, replaced bunches of rivets, and re-attached the bumper-(let loose after last years run)

So....give me some tricks & treats for my trip fella's

Charleston SC is always lovely... can always offer a hot meal and a bit of a tour. I can point to good lodging, or a slightly lumpy couch.

Lemme know...

I've driven down the east coast from Jacksonville, NC to Wilmington,NC Georgetown,SC thru Charleston,SC Savannah,GA to Brunswick then east to Waycross, Tifton and north to Macon & Atlanta.

Got to warn you... the people I met were absolutely fantastic and the FOOD is AWESOME ... almost had to get new shocks to handle the weight increase !!! But I was riding my Harley back then ( 98 ) so the Wing should handle the weight.

The best advise I can give from my persecutive is stay off the I-95 as much as possible.

If your into golf and you can handle the heat/humidity ( Winnipegers should, less the mosquitos ) I would suggest you stop in Mytle Beach,SC. for a quick 18 holes.

If you get anywhere near Warm Srings Ga.,or Columbus/ Phenix City, give me a PM if ya want to meet for for a spell. You gotta see the coast of the N.C. area. I spent the last two years vacation in the Kitty Hawk/ Hatteras area, and man is it beautiful and fun to ride. Exellent sea food, I recommend the local"she crab soup",best chowder of any kind I've ever eaten.....and lotsa beaches to walk. The avitar I'm using is Halle waking me up to go for another walk whileon vacation in Avon N.C. Have a great trip, jimsjinx:action::action::action::waving::clapper:

If you have the time, hit the Outer Banks of NC , Nags Head to Ocracoke then Cedar Island, NC to Beaufort, NC(http://tinyurl.com/lxwsmj). Some neat ferries and bridges. Then swing through Wilmington, NC--Myrtle Beach, SC--Charleston, SC--Beaufort, SC--Hilton Head, SC--Savannah, GA. When in Savannah, stay on Bay St., my favorite is the Staybridge Suites @ 301 E. Bay St. Its in the historic distric right next to River St. with all the bars and restaurants.

Thanks for the tips and offers guys, really appreciate it.

-ob1quixote,

A tour of Charleston would be outstanding!!!! I am paranoid of cities I know nothing about, hell I'll even spring for supper. What's Her Name sure loves to shop too. If you like, PM me your landline and we'll see how things line up.

-Savoybrown,

I detest interstates unless I need to get somewhere at warp speed. I've always been in love with the good ol American 2 lane blacktop. I do golf, not sure if I'm upto Myrtle Standards though. MOSQUITOES....Oh yea...full force and organized in squadrons right now. You named a lot of spots we're planing on looking at.

-Jimsjinx,

It is the coast we want to see alright, by all means PM me a landline and we'll see how time goes. Nothing like local insight.

-SB in SC,

Nothing but time fella, We've got 3 weeks to mess around with. I'll check out the spots you named. When we get to Savanah, we will be staying at The Westin Savanah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa for a couple of days. Thanks for the other hits to check out.

That's the only accommodations more or less booked. We are campers and love the outdoors, so any insight to camping would also be appreciated. Thanks fellas, this is exactly the kind of stuff I'm looking for and hope we can cross some paths.

Kyle,

Not sure if you are going to make it all the way to Savannah, but that is a great old city (by American standards) to visit. One of the few that Gen Sherman didn't burn to the ground on that march across Georgia. There are some great things to see and it's a nice drive out to Tybee Island, across the marshlands. And if you make it there, you would do yourself a great disservice if you did not stop at The Crab Shack, http://www.thecrabshack.com/(my personal recommendation is the Low Country Boil)

Tourist season is in swing and it will probably be warm, but I think that you would have fun!

Beautiful state campground in McRae georgia on rte 441. Has own 18 hole golf course and club house. My wife and I got the buffet breakfast and it only cost $13.00 for the both of us. Campground was only $26.00. Also have rooms if not camping. Very beautiful area and away from I-95.

The Outer Banks area is a must see. The Wrught Bros. Museum and all the light houses along the coast there. The seafood is really good too!

Where is the Outer Banks area? If I remember right, that is just south of Virginia Beach isn't it? That could be in around our start area for the coast run

Depending on how you arrive you can take 158 down thru Elizabeth City in North Carolina to Point Harbor over to Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head. And then take 64 back to the mainland and follow 264 South down the coast. If you want you could go South from Nags Head down to Cape Hatteras and Ocracoke light houses and take the ferry from Ocracoke to the mainland. In Myrtle Beach the Legends Golf Resort is a great place to stay and golf. If you are on 17 South thru Myrtle go left on 501 for a few miles to the Legends sign on the left. they have 3 courses together and you never have to leave the compound if you don't want to.
