You'll get used to it !!

I had been off 2 wheels for about 19 years when I got my first wing. They can be intimidating, and they are heavy. Just do what these guys are saying and practice in a parking lot or something, it helps. I am at the part where I am practicing with my wife on back, in the same parking lot. DON'T get rid of the wing. Just respect and enjoy it. I can't stay off mine now !!

I'm glad to hear I'm in good company! Welcome to the "Gravity Club", lol. Tuesday at work I got back from handling a customer complaint (took the bik) was distracted, thought I had the stand down and blam there she goes on her side. Luckily being 6'5 350 I just had to grab the bars and stand it back up but embarrassing none the less. Luckily all y guys were inside so no one saw!

I've never dropped mine, just lay it over to practice picking it up. ;) BTW, would you like to buy my interest in the Queen Mary?

On my !500 the air wings don't suffer. It doesn't tip that far, hopefully !
I've had mine go over and it has 'wings and no problem with them.
I have Baker's on my 1800 and they don't get trashed when you dump it. I have Kury hwy pegs and they get skun up a lil but no more than when I'm dragging them in the corners.

I come here to talk about how heavy this bike is, and see that everyone knows it!

Oh my.. Well, if (ok, when) I drop my GL1100, it's likely I'll never get it picked up without some help. (Does triple A come out for a dropped bike?) I'm recently off my first bike, a 1971 (are you sitting down?) CB100, and on to a very pretty 1983 GL1100 Aspencade. It's a lot of bike, but I really like it. The problem is that I weigh about 109 pounds soaking wet and I'm having issues with moving this thing! I find myself trying to get the 'lay of the land' before I choose a parking spot, because if it's leaning even a few degrees more than what it would be on a level surface, I'm in trouble. :) I'm ashamed to admit it, but I asked a total stranger to "stand me up" at a gas station earlier this week. He was happy to help, but I'm pretty sure he thought I was crazy. (that's ok, I am..) I'm glad I found this thread because there are some great links here. And I think I saw Jerry Paladino doing a low speed demonstration at the Honda Homecoming in Marysville, Ohio quite a few years ago. I was just a kid, but wow! I can't say that I'm "happy" to see others with the same worries, but misery loves company.. ;)

There is a video on the internet that shows you how to pick up your GW, I watched it and was glad I did. Look it up (I don't know how to post links) and maybe it will be of some help.

my first wing an 84 standard 30 mins after I got it I stopped in wet grass put my foot down and before I new it it was napping and I was wondering what the heck happened and of course I was right beside a road with people looking at me like I was some kind of idiot and this was before I saw the video and picked it up by the bars and crash bar facing it. never knew something could be that heavy.

Years back I was heading out for a ride got to the end of the driveway and stopped at the road. Well, the driveway has a 15-20 ft gravel ramp to get to the road and I stopped to close putting my foot down in the air.

The bike went almost upside down. It took my wife on the opposite foot peg and me lifting to get it back up.

You will drop a Gold Wing sooner or later just don't get hurt doing it. It's easier to fix the bike than to fix your hips.

I try not to put my feet down at stop lights, weave to slow down, and just keep practicing every ride. I've owned several bikes and dropped them all at least once. But much less times with my road bikes than those dirt bikes.

The other day I scrapped my pegs in a parking lot. I just looked the way I wanted to go, went for it, and gave it gas. I would have dropped it if I had worried about dropping it.

This is true advice. If you look at something, you will go there. If you stare at that pothole, you will most likely hit it. I have been training myself to do the look and go. I tried this in a parking lot and looked a hard left, cranked the bike and she went there....pegs scrapping and all.

Yep, sure have been there. I always look around quickly to see if some person wants to come over quickly and grab ahold of the truck to help lift it up. I have had that offer, not a good idea, just tell them you are OK and thank them for the offer and then set up the bike. I also have told them that the bike well trained, when I tip over the engine shuts off and it waits for me to get up and get ready to go.

Happened again today, was leaving the house and was going around the wifes Tahoe. Turned a little to sharp, hit a little bump and the wing decided to take a nap against the front bumper. (no damage to either) but had to get my son to help get it back up.
