I got new caliper seals for my 83 Aspencade.Took it apart today and sure enough the seals are too small. I double checked the part #'s at the Honda Direct site. The numbers listed are what I got. My pistons measure 1.25 " or 3.18mm. The seals I got are as follows: 45209-GE2-006 piston seal. 45109-GE2-006 dust seal. These seals measure 1" or 2.5mm. I noticed the seals for an Interstate are: 45109-MA7-006 dust seals and 45209-MA7-006 piston seal. An 82 Aspencade uses different seals also. Does anyone have any ideas what seals I need?

I've got new seals coming this week for my 82 rear so when they get here I'll let you know what they are.

Here's the Direct line part numbers for them.

Dust Seal, 45109-166-006
Piston Seal, 45209-166-006

Theese were ordered from www.hdlparts.com

Do you have your caliper off yet? I'd be curious what the diameter of the pistons are. Honda direct can be very slow on delivery.

Your metric is off by a factor of 10, but if memory serves me, the rear is 32mm and the front right is 25mm, the front left is also 32mm.

So the set you have should fit 1 of the front calipers, but not the rear. Because of the linked brakes, the '82 and '83 are different.

Wing Ding , the seals you have purchased ...45209-GE2-006(dust seal) and

45109-GE2-006 ( piston seal) are for the right front caliper of the 83 model .

You need part# 45109-MA7-006 ( dust seal ) and 45209-MA7-006 ( piston seal) , these parts are for the left front and rear of the 83 .

Yep its confusing doing brake work on the 1100 series :baffled:seems every year there was a change .

The numbers I got were right off the fiche for the rear caliper of an 83 Aspy . The numbers you gave are listed for an 83 Interstate. If you are correct( and you probably are), that means the fiche is wrong. I'll get those ordered right up. I hate having something torn down waiting for parts.

They are right. The 1100s have the most changes within the same model of any bike you're ever going to see. Your '83 was the bike that introduced linked brakes. To prevent front wheel lockup the front caliper that's linked to your rear brake has smaller pistons. The ones you got will fit that caliper. You'll need another set of seals the same size as your rear caliper for the other front caliper.
