Just installed an xm radio on my 96 gl1500se and placed the magnetic ant. on the right side metal arm rest atchment. The signal is great as long as the ant. is facing south. Does anyone have a thought on this problem.

I placed mine on the top box right behind the passenger backrest using velcro. No issues as long as I have open sky overhead.

On my 1200 I installed the ant on the middle of the dash behind the windshield. No problems with reception except, of course, when the signal is blocked by trees, buildings, etc..................

I am looking for a 4" x 4" chrome plate to mount my antenna. currently, i have it magnetically mounted on the luggage rack , but it needs a bigger ground plane to work well...I think this will fix the problem of fade in/out.

It just really needs a good ground plane to work with the antenna....

I have a 1500, so very little exposed metal...

I've got the antennae magnet mounted on the case the radio is mounted to.
Works like a champ.

Mine'svelcro'd tomy clutch reservoir lid (Sirius). Works great.

I also have one velcro'd to the bow of a fiberglass boat. Works great.

Same here.. on top of the clutch reservoir.... using double back tape.. and besides, your trying to get the antenna to "look up" not horizontal, so a ground plane is not even important..

The xm/sirrus signal has a 1/4 wave length of about 1.25 inches so it doesn't need much.. and for the most part, it provides its own.... I have never noticed a loss in signal except for things liketunnels and parking garages..
