My grandfather was pretty upset when I told him how I had to change the staor on the 85 Aspencade I got from him.He was even more upset when he learned I did the auto alt conversion rather than change the stator.

I want him happy as he is the reaon I have this bike. While he understands the money savings I made by doing the auto conversion,I know he stil wishes I went back stock.Would you guys spend the cash and do it stock for Grandpas sake? I`m leaning that way.

Not really, I'd prefer the stock stator myself, but if the bike's yours, it's yours to do with as you wish. Could have been worse you could have parted it out. It's obviously been his baby but he's gotta realize the baby grew up and moved out.

Tell grandpa that your way id being done by hundreds of owners all over the world and that it is better than the stock system, he might be a bit happier knowing that you didn't just dream up the fix yourself.

If YOUR wing looks good and shows very little to no outward sign that it has the auto/alternator conversion, then simply explain to gramps that his old girl just took a small leapfoward in technology. If it works well, leave it alone.

zonk is back Your C/B question is answered It is definitely the hand held control unit for a Cobra CB (I had one about 10 yrs ago)you will pay more than the unit is worth looking for the base unit Chuck it and buy a new completeunit from wal mart or some where

So to the conversion MUCH better to keep the alt I'm probably going to do mine this winter even though I figured out what was wrong with my charging system

Side track him by talking about putting a "Deer Alert" on the bike (since you live in Deer country) and then get him reading our "Deer Alert" Thread(with the Pancake rabbit), that will take a year and he'll be laughing so hard he'll forget about the Stator!:baffled::goofygrin::clapper:

When my turn comes, I'll probably go with the alternator conversion. Seems better in the long run.
