Hello everyone,

I have a 1986 Aspencade sei that I have owned for about4 yrs.Great bike, Love to ride.

I have read alot of good info in the forum in the past, now I have a problem I have not been able to figure out.

My bike is throwing up a faulty crank pos sensor alarm on the fault led,s on the ecm, I call it the computer.

Tested it as the manual says and its bad, tested the one in my parts bike andits bad. Have heard that this sensor is a hard one to find, man thats a under statment.

Anyone know if there is a automotive one that will work or anything that will.

Found a used one for$250, Thats just crazy.

Any help on this will be geatlyappreciated

It had a 1200 LTD a few years back and although my crank sensor never went bad, I did keep up with the info about them. I think oregonwinger found that you could substitute a 1500 sensor for it - with some work. If you search the forums you should be able to find references to it.

Good luck - I really liked the LTD - it was as quiet as a mouse compared to the 1800!

Although I don't have a need for one, I would like to get a hold of a bad one to see what makes it tick. I would like to try torepair/rebuild it.

Me too, if I had 1 I might be able to match it to a Honda car part.

Got the sei back on the road last Sunday. Found that the carbed models have two sensors, the FI's have one. The carbed sensors are the same, only difference is the wires are blue & blue/white for the second one on the circuit. Solder, heat shrink & insulation equals wind in my face.

Found the parts at Bent Bike for $40.00, plus I have a spare now. Came off a wrecked 85 1200I. Don't know the mileage, but I have a spare.

Tried to take the old one apart and destroyed it. Worth a try.

Thanks for the help and ride safe everyone

Yes, 85-87 will work, but technically not as good as the 1500 sensors. But, glad it worked out for you. Also, the 1500 types are much more durable, but, not a direct install. One has to do a bit of pad removable, and slot the mounting screw hole(s). Also, the polarity of wires has to be correct.
